Happy Holidays. Tis the season to be jolly....fa la la la la la, la la la la... Since 1960, the Friday before Thanksgiving is celebrated as "Light Up Night" in the city of Pittsburgh. It is the official kick-off to the holiday season! On that night, the skyscrapers and buildings in and around downtown leave their lights on throughout the night, lending to the name. It is a breathtaking sight. As well, it comes with many cherished traditions like the unveiling of the Christmas tree and ice rink at One PPG Place on Light up Night. It is also a time for free music like choirs and concerts, street performers, carriage rides, hot chocolate, delicious treats and more! The night usually concludes with an incredible fireworks display against the bright skyline. It is a Pittsburgh tradition loved and enjoyed by all.
